ARROW Season 5 Trailer: Oliver is Recruiting a Team Also

There is a lot riding on the success of Arrow’s fifth season as the DC Comics’ TV show prepares for a return to airwaves next season. The Emerald Archer has birthed an entire universe on the CW network and beginning next month four out of five weeknights will be headlined with superhero programming. The veteran show of the group will actually have the most to prove this year and it looks like they are coming out swinging.

There will be a lot of changes to the tone and dynamics of the new season, as the series’ producers are bringing the show back to its basics. Arrow began as a gritty take (by CW’s previous standards) on the Green Arrow (Stephen Amell), filmed through the prism of Batman comics and Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. However, in an effort to broaden the comic book universe on screen, by introducing fantastic characters such as the Flash, Atom, and Ra’s Al Ghul. However, it did result in Arrow to straying from the identity that initially set it apart.

In the new trailer for the fifth season, we see how the show has come down to Earth. While still including many notable comic characters, albeit ones that are grounded and realistic. We see new additions such as Wild Dog and Mr. Terrific in live-action, which is a treat for longtime fans of comics. We also get to see how the new recruits will fit into Team Arrow and it seems to have added a new layer to the show.

If the video feels familiar, it’s because there are glaring similarities in tone and structure to the well-received Justice League trailer. From the driving soundtrack, to Oliver stating that he is “forming a team,” there are certainly calculated callbacks to the feature film. Which is an interesting marketing strategy and an example of synergy between the film and TV side. (Whether they worked together on it or not.) There is a lot to be excited about next season. Enjoy the trailer!

Official Synopsis:

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the North China Sea. Oliver returned home to Star City, bent on righting the wrongs of his family and fighting injustice. As the Green Arrow, he protects his city with the help of former soldier John Diggle (David Ramsey), computer science expert Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), his vigilante-trained sister Thea Queen (Willa Holland), former police captain Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) and brilliant inventor Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum).
Newly appointed Mayor Oliver Queen finds himself challenged as he fights on two fronts for the future of Star City. With Diggle back in the military and Thea adamant about hanging up her hood as Speedy, Team Green Arrow is down to just Oliver and Felicity – but they’re no longer the only vigilantes in town. Green Arrow’s public defeat of Damien Darhk at the end of Season Four has inspired a new crop of masked heroes to step up and defend the city, though their painful inexperience makes them obstacles, rather than allies, in the field. The arrival of a deadly new adversary will force Oliver to confront questions about his own legacy, both as mayor and as the Green Arrow.

The new season of Arrow begins on Wednesday, October 5th on The CW.
