In the past few years, there have been a lot of pleasant surprises at the movie theaters. One of the most unexpected franchises to make a mark on the scene is John Wick. The action series is a throwback to movies of the 80’s and 90’s that centered on an unstoppable protagonist who violently doles out vigilante justice, while deftly avoiding bullets and certain death at every corner.
Keanu Reeves (The Matrix) reinvigorated his career by taking on the role of the John Wick, under the direction of David Leitch and Chad Stahelski. The two former stuntmen have both scored big-budget production deals from the first movie’s success, which will result in Deadpool 2 and a reboot of Highlander respectively.
Stahelski was the sole director behind last year’s sequel John Wick: Chapter 2. In the movie, Wick goes overseas to punish those that have crossed the line. It’s a relentless and no holds barred follow up that did not let down fans of the original and opened up the the film’s world in exciting new ways.
The main draw of the franchise is the unforgiving set pieces, in which Wick artfully dispatches his enemies with a series of bone breaking strikes, stabs, and head shots, that have become iconic for the series. The first film boasted a kill count of 84 victims at the hands of Wick. It’s clear from a single viewing of the sequel that Wick has upped his game and Youtuber Nick Dinizio has made a compilation of all of Wick’s kills in the film. If you haven’t seen the movie, you should probably handle that before watching this. However, if you have already seen it, there’s not a better way to revisit the movie.
In case you wanted a more detailed break down of the carnage, we have a nifty infographic courtesy of Vidu. It gives a detailed breakdown of the method of Wick’s kills and more. Really, what more can you ask for?
Oh…you really want more? Well, we have you covered… You can rest assured that the third installment is currently underway with screenwriter Derek Kolstad returning to finish out his trilogy. Stahelski is looking to return to the director’s chair and the production of John Wick 3 is being fast-tracked to film this fall. The details are scarce on the plot, but we can rest assured that it will involve Wick dealing out justice with his trusty handguns. Stay tuned for more to come.
