In February of 2016, Fox reignited their entire X-Men franchise with Tim Miller’s unexpected superhero satire, Deadpool. The self-aware action-comedy also stretched the limits of what is deemed as acceptable (and profitable) in the comic book genre, with a no holds barred approach that garnered the film an unapologetic R-rating.
Ryan Reynolds established himself as the Merc with a Mouth, while spearheading a marketing campaign that took the world by storm. Whether it was the hilarious announcement of the film’s R-rating or Deadpool trick or treating with kids on Halloween, the actor never missed an opportunity for laughter. The marketing worked as the movie secured the largest R-rating opening in movie history and since that moment fans have been salivating for the follow up.
Today, Fox released the first trailer for the sequel to Deadpool. Interestingly enough, the movie is titled The Untitled Deadpool Sequel, on the official website…so we are going to roll with it. The first look at upcoming flick features Deadpool in full Bob Ross cosplay giving a painting tutorial, while saying things that only he could get away with. It then jarringly cuts to a brief sizzle reel of the action that we can expect from next year’s release before returning to the Merc with an Afro.
The sequel features many returning faces including his girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Boccarin), Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Weasel (T.J. Miller), Domino (Zazie Beats), and the long awaited cinematic debut of Cable, played by Avengers: Infinity War’s Josh Brolin. The movie is one of the most anticipated releases in 2018 and even this brief look assures us that the sequel is in good hands with director David Leitch. With the film’s release pending release next summer, we can expect a lot more over the coming months as the campaign has officially begun. In the meantime…have a laugh.
After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfill his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavor – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.
The Untitled Deadpool Sequel opens on June 1st, 2018.
