Over the course of the next year Fox will be bringing the X-Men to both the big and small screen in bold, new ways. Next year will see the release of three new films set within the cinematic universe including Deadpool 2, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and The New Mutants. While on the television side, the world’s most popular mutant superheroes are coming to Fox in a brand new show.
Up until recently, there were rights issues between Fox and Marvel that prevented shows from hitting the airwaves. However, behind-the-scenes negotiations between the studios have created a new wave of X-Men programming and The Gifted is the first new show off of the launchpad.
The series’ pilot episode is directed by Bryan Singer, the same director who brought the cinematic universe to life with the original X-Men, X2, and X-Men: Days of Future Past…as well as last year’s X-Men: Apocalypse. (Hey, they all can’t be winners.) There is no denying that getting a filmmaker the caliber of Singer should immiediately raise the antannae of both comic book fans and TV enthusiasts alike. We have already gotten a trailer for the show, however particular with long-form storytelling, sometimes a sizzle reel doesn’t tell the entire story.
In anticipation of next week’s debut of The Gifted, Fox has released the first six-minutes of the show to give viewers a taste of the flavor of the upcoming show. The story takes place within the same universe that have been in theaters for the past couple of decades, however it’s unclear exactly how the show falls into the timeline. Luckily, many questions will be answered within a matter of days, so in the meantime. Enjoy the clip!
