There were signs of a post-Thanksgiving hangover, as it was a lethargic week at the box-office this past weekend. No new films managed to crack the top five spots, as Moana continued its reign at the top for the second consecutive weekend. Disney’s high-seas adventure continues its run with an estimated $28.3 million dollar pull, which brings its domestic total a shade under $120 million dollars. It lost less than 50% of its Turkey Day audience while performing well overseas as well.
Coming in second place was Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with an estimated $18.3 million dollars. The Harry Potter spin-off is in its third week of release and the sequel is already far underway. It’s domestic total has now surpassed $183 million dollars in total grosses and it has a few more weeks worth of legs left.
Arrival continues its slow burn of a run by moving up from fifth to third place this weekend, with an estimated $7.3 million dollar pull. It lost an estimated 36% of last week’s crowd, yet expanded to an additional 473 screens. This only bodes well for its life on streaming services and home viewings, due to word of mouth, which heavily influencing the film’s staying power.
Fourth place belong to Allied with an estimated $7 million dollars. The movie is shaping up to be a sizeable flop for Paramount, as it has grossed less than $29 million dollars in two weeks of release, against its $85 million production budget.
Rounding out the top five was Doctor Strange, with an estimated $6.4 million dollars. The movie crossed $215 million dollars in domestic grosses and has already cemented itself among the pantheon of Marvel franchises.
