X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX To Feature Shi’ar Empire?

Publicly, the future of the X-Men on film seems to be in flux. However, behind the scenes there is a lot of movement on the Fox Studios’ lot for everyone’s favorite band of mutants.

The Wolverine franchise has come to a close after a successful curtain call with Logan. New Mutants is gearing up to shoot in a matter of weeks. The sequel to Deadpool is also prepping for a summer shoot with Josh Brolin ready to costar with Ryan Reynolds as Cable. However, with all of these spin-offs in production, the adventures of the primary cast of Charles Xavier’s X-Men seems to be on the back burner. That’s not the case.

Thanks to Omega Underground, they have come across an audition tape for the upcoming film, X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The video is of actor Toby Huss (Cowboys and Aliens) auditioning for an unknown role for the superhero movie. You can check out the audition by here.

Hoover:Have you learned their language?
2nd Character:Please, there are only 171,000 more than 40,000 of which are obsolete.
Hoover: They are a primitive people. They have never been a threat to anyone but themselves.
2nd Character: If that was so true, we wouldn’t be here. So, what have you learned? What type of weapons do they have? Who are their most powerful protectors?
Hoover: They call themselves SEALS, and their the ones responsible for what’s happened.

The dialogue signals a character that isn’t familiar with Earthly customs and norms. Hoover seems to be on a recon mission and is scouting the planet for the second, unnamed player. That 2nd Character seems to be of higher rank and is interested mostly in the military strength of this unknown place. Omega Underground concludes that the dialogue seems to indicate the presence of the Shi’ar Empire, one of the most advanced alien species in Marvel Comics.
It has been widely known that the new movie will adapt the seminal story line from X-Men comics, “The Dark Phoenix Saga.” The story was written by comic book legend Chris Claremont and focused on Jean Grey becoming corrupted and possessed by a dark cosmic force. The story spans from Earth to the farthest reaches of outer space and is one of comic’s greatest stories.
It’s clear that Fox has been inspired by the success of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and the Shi’ar would be ideal conduits to take their adventures to an intergalactic stage. With the lackluster release of X-Men: Apocalypse, it’s clear that the franchise needed a shakeup. With casting currently underway, there should be much more from Dark Phoenix in the coming weeks so keep checking back for more.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix opens on November 2nd, 2018.
