If you are a fan of Star Wars, the next few years will be tailor-made for you. The release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the beginning of a new era and now there are a new generation of faces for the franchise.
Late last night news broke on who would be the next actor to wear Harrison Ford’s iconic black vest in the Star Wars universe. According to Deadline, Alden Ehrenreich has nabbed one of the most coveted roles in the world for Disney and LucasFilm.
If you are scratching your head because you saw the character’s demise in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and don’t follow movie news, you may understandably be a little confused. In 2018, Disney will release another spin-off from the Star Wars universe following this year’s Rogue One, that will follow the adventures of young Han Solo and Chewbacca. Legendary Star Wars screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan, and his son, are writing the script with The LEGO Movie’s Chris Miller and Phil Lord set to direct the film. If we are judging by a recent tweet from one of the directors, the movie is about to shoot soon.

There have been rumors that the young Han Solo will be making a cameo in Rogue One and that’s another reason for the timing of the casting. Ehrenreich most recently appeared in Hail, Caesar!, however has not made an impression yet with general audiences. That should be a positive for the studio who have successfully created at least three new stars in Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, and Daisy Ridley. These are all fresh faces who don’t have previously recognizable roles as baggage and who will forever be identified by their characters in the Star War universe.
The Han Solo spin-off movie is still three Star Wars films away, however you can expect to see much more on casting and story details in the coming weeks and months.
