The Flash has become one of the most popular superhero shows on television due to its high-concept storytelling, heart, special effects, and cast of memorable characters who help to bring the show to life. The show is midway through its third season and it appears that there are big plans in the future.
Actor Grant Gustin is the unquestioned star of the series, however series’ showrunners Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti have managed to fill out the cast with other memorable players as well. There have been appearances by Hollywood legends like Mark Hamill, as well as nods to earlier live-action incarnations of The Flash by casting John Wesley Shipp as Jay Garrick. While the core of Barry Allen, Cisco Ramon, Caitlin Snow, Joe and Iris West, have remained consistent, the supporting cast has been a revolving door.
It seems that the door continues to spin as another former cast member is prepping for a return to the superhero series. Actor Rick Cosnett took to Twitter this morning and announced that he will be making a return appearance on the CW network’s hit show this season.

There have been several ways that the showrunners have cheated death on their show – due to science fiction elements such as time travel – which has brought back characters from beyond the grave. Characters such as Firestorm (Robbie Amell), have died multiple times on the show and the writers continue to find ways to continue to include the actor. While other players like Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanaugh) or Henry Allen/Jay Garrick are continually reinvented which gives the actors new challenges due to the dramatic shifts in their characters’ personalities.
Cosnett’s character, Eddie Thawne, was a romantic rival and ally of Allen’s, who gave up his life in an effort to stop the maniacal plans of the twisted Reverse Flash. His sacrifice was the emotional climax of the show’s first season that left many viewers in tears. Cosnett didn’t give any indication of how or why Thawne will be returning to the show however.
The actor made a brief return appearance in the second season, when Iris (Candice Patton) received a video message from her fallen lover. However, with the existence of time travel and alternate dimensions on the show, there are a myriad of ways that the character could make his return in this third season. We can’t wait to see how it will play out.
The Flash returns to The CW with new the episode titled ‘Borrowing Problems from the Future’ on Tuesday, January 24th at 8pm.
