Just when it seemed the franchise couldn’t possibly get any more insane, the Fast and Furious series has managed to stupefy audiences once again. Dom Toretto has gone rogue and judging by the looks and sounds of the newest trailer, the baton has been passed to The Rock to talk about “family” for two hours.
When the first trailer dropped everyone wondered how and why Vin Diesel’s character had seemingly switched to the Dark Side. The newest trailer has answers, probably more answers than you were actually asking for. But alas, it is here regardless. F. Gary Gray is behind the wheel of the latest installment, The Fate of the Furious, and the adventure promises to travel from the streets of New York to Cuba and farther.
The last movie, Furious 7, was a surprising billion dollar success, that was propelled by the tragic death of Paul Walker. While the series is still hugely profitable, it will be interesting to see how much longer the action and stories attract audiences. The additions of Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren to The Fate of the Furious gives the franchise an unexpected jolt of acting nitro. However, it has fallen on Gray’s shoulders to see if he has a story that is worthy of the submarine-sized action that the newest installment provides. We will find out next month.
On the heels of 2015’s Furious 7, one of the fastest movies to reach $1 billion worldwide in box-office history and the sixth-biggest global title of all time, comes the newest chapter in one of the most popular and enduring motion-picture serials of all time: The Fate of the Furious.
Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.
From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world’s stage…and to bring home the man who made them a family.
The Fate of the Furious will open on April 14th, 2017.
