The multi-year partnership between Marvel and Netflix has been a stunning success, with the two companies pulling off a long reaching plan that has seen the production of multiple television shows. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, have all had varying levels of success and paved the way for a spin-off series The Punisher and most notably, the mini-series team-up, The Defenders.
The master plan has almost come together as “Phase 1” of the Marvel/Netflix production is almost complete. Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones, combine forces to face off against film legend Sigourney Weaver, who will be playing the big boss of the series. It’s still unclear if her role is adapted from the comics, fendersregardless, having an actress of her caliber on-screen will class the series up by osmosis.
While the Marvel/Netflix partnership has had a few bumps in the road, most notably with the release of Iron Fist, which scored high ratings but was a critical nightmare for Marvel. However, if The Defenders manages to fulfill the immense potential of the show, it has the opportunity to elevate all four properties to an even higher level.
There is a lot to digest in the the trailer, however comic book fans might be most enthused by watching Luke Cage and Iron Fist share the screen. In the comics, the two formed a crime fighting duo named, Heroes for Hire, so it will be interesting to watch their friendship grow in the series. While its also hard to ignore all of the supporting character from the various shows who are joining the action as well, including Stick (Scott Glenn), Elektra (Elodie Yung), and Misty Knight (Simone Missick), among others. There is plenty of time before the show’s release, so get ready for an exciting summer of reveals. Enjoy.
