SUICIDE SQUAD Director David Ayer Debunks the Robin and Joker Rumor

Comic book movie fans have a lot to look forward to from Warner Bros including Wonder Woman, Justice Leagueand it all begins with next week’s release of Suicide SquadThe upcoming movie was once thought to be a gamble due to its collection of largely unknown comic book characters, but who have quickly gained in popularity.

Against all odds, the late summer release is primed to be one of the biggest releases of the summer. The last estimates had the film pegged with a $125 million dollar opening that would blow away even conservative guesses last year. Audiences are starting to understand the potential of a movie featuring the Joker, Harley Quinn, Will Smith, and the Batman, and tickets are already being scooped up in anticipation.

With a movie as zany as the Suicide Squad, there are a plethora of urban legends and behind-the-scenes stories. Some of the tales take place behind the camera, others are part of the film’s story. One of the more persistent rumors was that Jason Todd, aka the second Robin, took on the persona of the Joker in the live-action cinematic universe. The bizarre backstory was invented by fans who thought that bullet holes in Robin’s armor in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justicematched up with the tattoos on the Joker’s body.

In a recent interview, director David Ayer finally put to rest one of the internet’s most bizarre rumors about the film.

Warner Bros is just getting their live action DC universe off of the ground and the studio doesn’t need to overcomplicate its storytelling anymore than it already has. While this is a breathing world with both a past and a future, it would be too much to ask of audiences to understand such a complicated backstory. Plus, it’s simply a terrible idea.

With the release of Suicide Squad right around the corner, there is a lot more to come on the movie. So get ready…
