The 90’s are coming back next month in the form of the Power Rangers and the hopes of a generation of latchkey kids hangs in the balance. The promotional campaign initially presented the upcoming reboot as a more gritty film in the mold of Chronicle and The Dark Knight. However, each subsequent trailer seems to lean more towards the camp and colorfulness found in the original TV shows.
The new trailer titled, “All-Star,” seems to be targeting the fans of the original property and highlighting the sense of fun and adventure that is inherent in Power Rangers. The bright colors, jagged movements, and physics-defying action from the original show are all intact, with an extra layer of modern polish to bring the Rangers into contemporary times.
The new trailer focuses on the fun and characters that will have to jump into their colorful power suits and fight evil with giant robots. It also gives us the clearest sense of the tone that seems both reverential, yet authentic to the original series. The movie is a little over a month away, so sit back and enjoy the trailer!
