Marvel staged a pretty fantastic panel at this year’s San Diego Comic Con and released a whole boatload of awesome images, footage and casting news. One of the most highly anticipated MCU movies, Black Panther, got a pretty cool new logo and finally revealed what actors will be playing what roles.
Director Ryan Coogler, Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan and Lupita Nyong’o all took to the stage, and welcomed the newest addition to the cast, The Walking Dead‘s Danai Gurira. Ever since Jordan and Nyong’o were first announced to be part of the cast, their character roles were being kept underwraps, with speculation that Jordan could be playing a villain in the movie.
Well it’s just been confirmed that Michael B. Jordan will be playing Erik Killmonger, a nemesis of the Black Panther. The character is a native of Wakanda, with his original birth name being N’Jadaka. He and his family were exiled, by King T’Challa, they later found themselves in Harlem and N’Jadaka changed his name to Erik Killmonger. Though he comes back to Wakanda with a real big hated for T’Challa/Black Panther.
Lupita Nyong’o was confirmed to be playing Nakia, a member of the Dora Milaje – the personal bodyguards of Black Panther/T’Challa, who was also a love interest at one point in the comics. Danai Gurira is going to be playing the role of Okoye, leader of the Dora Milaje.
With Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira in the cast, Black Panther looks like it’s going to be one of the best casts of any recent MCU movie.
Black Panther opens February 16, 2018.
