JESSICA JONES Season 2: Casting Breakdown and Possible Marvel Characters

The partnership between Netflix and Marvel Studios has been a spectacular success. Daredevil set the gritty tone for the corner of the Marvel cinematic universe that is rarely shown on the big screen. It was followed by Jessica Jones which took superhero entertainment in a refreshing new direction, with a female protagonist that is unlike any other hero on screen. Luke Cage’s debut literally broke Netflix’s servers. While Iron Fist will be remembered as the first critical disappointment, however even that show has broken records. Late this summer we will get the event mini-series, The Defenders, that will feature all four heroes, while Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher solo series is expected to drop at the end of the year. Yes, it’s a great time to have a Netflix subscription.

The next show to go before cameras will be Jessica Jones for its second season, with series standout Krysten Ritter returning to the title role. The cast has begun to assemble and filming has already begun on location in New York City. Little is known about where the series will go, however thanks to That Hashtag Show and MCU Exchange, we have a much better idea.

THS has revealed new casting breakdowns for Jessica Jones’ second season which is shooting under the working title, “Violet.” As with most superhero casting, the names have been scrambled to protect the true identities of the characters. However, with some intense comic book research and a little bit of intuition, they have some solid speculation on who these characters are from the world of Marvel Comics and how they could possibly fit into the new season. Let’s take a look…

“Dr. Kirby”

Casting Description: 60’s Male, Open ethnicity

Scientist and freethinker

(Series Regular)

Best Fit: Dr. Karl Malus

Malus founded the Institute for Supranormality Research in the comics and was responsible for giving multiple low-level criminals their powers. The first season of Jessica Jones had a glaring lack of physical matches for Jones, so Malus may help to even the playing field and provide more opportunity for action.

“Presley”

Casting Description: Late 30’s Male, African-American

Intelligent, driven, self-assured

(Fractional Series Regular)

Best Fit: Paul Denning aka Paladin

Paladin is a mercenary and private investigator in the comics who has crossed paths with Daredevil and the Purple Man multiple times. So it would seem that he would be a perfect fit for season 2. He could be prove to be competition, an ally, a lover, or all of the above for Jones.

“Oliver”

Casting Description: 34-38 Male, Latino

Artistic, paternal, smart, scruffy, and hip

Best Fit: Otis Johnson

In the comics, despite his scrawny exterior, Johnson is actually indestructible. His backstory crosses with the Daughters of the Dragon, Colleen Wing and Misty Knight, so his inclusion makes sense in the Marvel/Netflix playground.

“Ingrid”

Casting Description: Early to mid 30’s, 5’8-5’11, female

Dark hair, attractive and edgy, has a history of living on the streets.

Educated as a nurse, but street-wise. She is attracted to men and women…

(Series Regular)

Best Fit: Ian Soo; Typhoid Mary

It would make sense for Jones to face off against a female antagonist, after the psychological battle that she endured with Kilgrave in the first season. The description fits Mary much closer than Ian Soo (even though that role’s gender could easily be flipped) and she is the type of villain with mature subtext that would be a natural fit for the Netflix universe.

There is currently not a set release date for the second season of Jessica Jones on Netflix.
