Netflix and Marvel Studios are on the verge of creating their first super-team for the small screen and it’s just around the corner. Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones, have all left their individual marks and created both overlapping and distinct fanbases. This summer, they will do their best Avengers impersonation and combine their powers as The Defenders. As exciting as the prospect is of watching all of the heroes on screen together, there is one more piece of business, you have to meet the Final Defender.
In anticipation of the release of Iron Fist next month, Netflix is giving audiences a crash course with their featurette titled, “I Am Danny Rand.” Last year, Finn Jones won the job of bringing Marvel’s elite martial artist to life. The actor first cut his teeth with American audiences on Game of Thrones, now he’s a full-fledged member of the MCU. He now plays the part of narrator, as he walks you through the primer on the Iron Fist television show.
Rand’s story has a familiar hero’s journey trajectory, including being the orphaned son of billionaire parents, training in an exotic locale, and somehow becoming the best martial artist in the world. However, we have never seen this done Marvel/Netflix style. Iron Fist has the chance to be the most epic show of all four series and should provide the groundwork for even bigger adventures in The Defenders and beyond, for all four characters. Check it out.
Fifteen years after being presumed dead in a plane crash, Danny Rand (Finn Jones) mysteriously returns to New York City determined to reclaim his birthright and family company. However, when a long-destined enemy rises in New York, this living weapon is forced to choose between his family’s legacy and his duties as the Iron Fist.
Marvel’s Iron Fist premieres March 17, 2017 exclusively on Netflix.
