When it comes to television events, it doesn’t get much bigger than Game of Thrones every year. Now that the series has effectively redefined the scope and expectations for what is possible on a TV screen, the series can see the light at the end of the tunnel. However, it’s clear that over the course of the final two seasons, that the showrunners hope to live up to the show’s promise.
The penultimate season begins next month, while the eighth season – which will only be six episodes long – is set to debut as late as 2019. The result is one of the most anticipated seasons in recent memory and HBO has responded with a trailer that boasts the scale, visual effects, and ambition, of a feature film. After seven epic seasons, the new sizzle reel looks to fulfill the show’s promises and declare triumphantly that #WinterIsHere.
The trailer offers a lot to excite fans and seems to hint at many moments that the series has been building towards since its inception. We see Beric Dondarrion wielding a flaming sword and preparing for combat, Daenerys returning to Dragonstone within Westeros, as well as scenes of her soldiers battling the Lannisters, glimpses of Jon Snow versus the Night King, and dragons…lots of dragons. If you are excited, you are more than justified to be so. Enjoy the trailer:
