GAME OF THRONES’ Peter Dinklage in Talks for AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

If reports are accurate, Peter Dinklage will soon be finding out if the grass is greener on the other side of the cinematic universe fence. The Game of Thrones’ actor first cut his teeth into the superhero world in Fox’s 2014 hit, X-Men: Days of Future Past, as the diabolical politician Bolivar Trask and had seemingly gone back to simply dominating the world of Lannisters and dragons on his hit HBO show. However, Dinklage still might have his eye set on ruling the world, or some other comic book scheme.

According to Variety, Dinklage is being pursued by directors Anthony and Joe Russo for a role in the upcoming blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War and its follow-up sequel. The trade explains:

Production on the seventh season of “Game of Thrones” recently wrapped. Since the schedule for the show has moved from a summer shoot to a fall shoot, Dinklage’s schedule allowed him to board the latest “Avengers” pic which is expected to shoot sometime in early summer.

Once Dinklage signs the contract, speculation into who the diminutive thespian will be playing should kick into overdrive. However, if we take his stature into the casting, Pip the Troll and MODOK are possibilities. Pip is the sidekick to Adam Warlock who’s known for debauchery and comedic relief. He figured into the Infinity Gauntlet saga and came into direct conflict with Thanos in the comics, so he seems to be the best fit. While MODOK is a long shot on the other hand, since he doesn’t fit prominently into the comic story line or MCU, but is a fan-favorite due to his unique visual look.

It’s entirely possible that he’s being pursued for an innocuous role like a government agent, but it would seem like a waste for the actor to play similar roles in both the MCU and X-Men franchises. So, just in case your office is having a betting pool on the casting, the odds on favorite is Pip. Infinity War has impossible expectations to live up to, by being the culmination of ten years of Marvel filmmaking. However, it seems that they are doubling down on talent, as filming for the sequel is near an official start date. (In fact, filming has already unofficially taken place.) We can’t wait to find out what is coming next for the Avengers.
